    Current data indicates that nuclear pore complex (NPC) RanBP2 (SUMO E3 ligase) protein sumoylates Mdm2 and HDAC proteins during nuclear translocation. A sumoylation-deficient HDAC showed reduced deacetylation activity and suggests that sumoylation may be an important regulatory mechanism for the control of transcriptional repression.
